Eats and Treats: Ljubljana

We had a short but sweet stay in Ljubljana, Slovenia. We only had one day. Kara and I fell in love with this small city nestled in the Alps. We arrived at the Fluxus Hostel at 3AM. One of the girls who works there stayed until we arrived. We were so thankful for that. As you can imagine - we slept in!

We woke up in time for lunch. We headed straight for Old Town. It was very enchanting and magical. We felt like we were in a fairytale. We had read about a restaurant in that area called Zlata Ribica. They serve a traditional European/Slovenian dish called Buckwheat Groats - so I ordered that and some coffee (of course). It was a beautiful sunny day so we sat outside right along the river. The Buckwheat Groats were wonderful - they had the texture of oatmeal and were cooked in a mushroom broth - so the flavor was very rich.

After lunch we meandered through the streets of Old Town and made our way up to the castle. What a view from up there! The Alps were gorgeous. Kara and I both agreed the landscape reminded us of the NW. The fir trees and mountains made us feel right at home.

When we were done taking in the view, we headed back down. I was having a gelato craving so I popped in a little shop and ordered some old fashion chocolate. It was tasty, but not at as good as the gelato in Prague.

For dinner we ate at a restaurant called Cafe Romeo. Kara had seen people eating crepes earlier that day and had to have some. I couldn't turn down crepes. So Cafe Romeo it was! They had all sorts of crepes to choose from. I ordered the Twix crepes, which turned out to be divine. I have decided I need more crepes in my life! I am adding them to my "To Bake List".

The next day we headed to the train station for the last time. We were on our way to Vienna! I had another snack attack. Here is what I bought. I ate those paprika Pringles right up as we rambled through the Alps!
